At the meeting of the Baton Rouge Press Club of Monday, May 23, 2016, Louisiana
Attorney General Jeff Landry sharply criticized media reports he assesses as
“wrong and designed to sell more newspapers” entailing his legislative
initiatives to impose financial penalties on specific governmental agencies
assisting sanctuary cities in Louisiana.  Video highlights from AG Landry’s
presentation follow:

Landry outlines sanctuary cities legislation.

Landry outlines rationale for pushing for independent AG budget.

Landry flatly rejects an assertion by Elizabeth Crisp (Advocate reporter) that
Landry may be engaging in a power grab entailing his 2016
legislative initiatives.

Landry responds to a question by Sue Lincoln (Public Radio) entailing
whether it is “appropriate” to impose financial penalties on entities
assisting with sanctuary cities in Louisiana.

Landry has to aggressively fend off a contention that sanctuary city
legislative initiatives he’s supporting would impose broad, sweeping financial
penalties for agencies such as the Port of Greater New Orleans and
the Louisiana Superdome Commission.

Landry provides an example of him being unable to save the taxpayers
money on a car he recently rented because he lacks the flexibility to
negotiate a better rate due to the Division of Administration stating he
must follow their protocol.  He then has to fend off an inquiry on why
such authority should be vested in him.

Landry responds to a question by Sound Off Louisiana‘s Robert Burns
on ways he’d like to make the AG’s Office more efficient if his
legislative initiative becomes law.

Landry weighs in on Elizabeth Crisp’s question entailing his recent
decision to address President Obama’s transgender bathroom mandates.

Note:  AG Landry’s sanctuary cities initiative was killed in the Senate Judiciary-A Committee by a 2-2 vote.  The two Senators voting to kill the bill were:  Sen. Danny Martiny (who made the motion to defer — i.e. kill — the bill) and Sen. Wesley Bishop.
